Visit to Egelsbach – AW139
Two days before Christmas, Heli Transair still received a visit from the AgustaWestland AW139, D-HHXH, from Heli Service International....
A rare guest at the Egelsbach Airport, a 6-ton class helicopter. Reason for the stopover: After the handover at the factory, the new helicopter was transferred from Milan to Emden. The helicopter is already the 3rd type AW139 at Heli Service International within 13 months. For many years, Heli Service International, based in Emden has successfully carried out offshore operations and works for, amongst others, the Alfred Wegener Institute. Managing Director Eberhard Herr, the brother of Heli Transair’s Managing Director, Dirk Herr personally transferred the helicopter to northern Germany. The current fleet includes the models AW139, Sikorsky S-76 and BO105.
The new helicopter’s operational area is the expanse of the North Sea. Helicopters of this class are used for transporting materials and people to remote offshore wind farms and oil platforms out at sea. These challenging missions are flown by experienced pilots who qualify for this job only after a certain number of flying hours.
This operational area is a dream job for many professional helicopter pilots and as such a number of our current, former and also future student pilots had the opportunity to see the helicopter and consequently to take a closer look at their potentially future workplace. They would not be the first pilots to be trained at Heli Transair and now employed by Heli Service.
